MK1's are good but you need to shop around the best condition car is not always the most expensive. jsut look at loads and look for rust

MK2's are the same as MK1's with less rust

    Civic

Another for the Rust list, reminids me i need to get the welder out

I Think a MK1 or MK2 are great projects, good availability of spares as are Mini and MG's...proper ones that is MGB's Midgets etc.

I suggest getting anyone of these cars with goof body work, that doesn't mean no rust visible...as with experience the less you can see the more it been hidden, usually badly!!!

I would say go for what you like as sometimes the motivation required means you need to at least like the car

Very true I was lucky with my MKII Mini 1969 with 45000 miles form new when I brought it 12 years ago restored it ourselves need a bit of tiding up now but not on the road at the moment as I have my other classic Mini to play with 1.3 MPI 90 Bhp conversion 5 speed box sports suspension etc etc mind you it cost me a small fortune and of course my daily car a golf 1.9 TDI (brilliant car). If you want a project car get something that has good part availability and a good club/forum scene anything form VW, MG, Mini even ford (but some ford prices are going crazy) falls into this category

for 20k you could buy a second hand 170 TDI MK5 Golf and still afford to insure it.

I did say it was a generalisation.

Ben I think you miss the point if you just go and buy a new Car. Go and drive and old car and you will understand

Also you don't need to spend that kind of money....it can be very cheep, just need to be patent on spares and put up with few...what do dealers call it....Features

    Most probably.

Still, it is nice to see the results of the effort someone has put in.

I also differentiate between project cars and chav mobiles.

this is a project car or anything similar.

any thing else that is vastly removed from oem or has crashed in to halfords or appears on here is a chav mobile or has OTT fibreglass bodykit
