Heya, ever since seeing a black debaged Bora round christmas time ive been in love

Bora 1.9TDI 130 6speed seems to be the one i want, doesnt it differ much apart from Mapping to a 150bhp model?

Ultimatly id like to have a Nice FMIC peeping through the front bumper, Decatted full exhaust system then remapped, in short whats achiveable with these Boras?

My budget at first buying the car is £2500 roughly

General gist seems to be that the 150bhp model is less reliable. I think quite simply that they were pushing an older engine/older components further and further. Would go for the 130 every time - superb torque and seem to be pretty reliable.

id have to say ive had no problems at all with my 130bhp Bora - its a good all rounder if im honest.

Plenty of power when you need it, comfortabe, great MPG loads of torque and cheap to service - mine jst cost me 165 for a 3 year service cheap as chips compared to my last car

    Go for the 130 tdi.

I have had two 130 tdi's over the past 4-5 years they are excellent cars.

Just make sure you get one with a good service history, with your budget I guess you will be looking at reasonably high mileage examples? I have not looked at prices for a while so not sure what you could get for that.

Having owned a 130 sport for 9 months now I can't fault your choice on the 130. I test drove a 150 and it didn't feel significantly quicker in real world conditions

Based upon my personal experience however I would budget for a new clutch if planning to up the power north of 170 bhp

I bought my 04 plate with 23k on the clock and after 6 months got a custom code remap to 170 at xmas last year. Clutch began slipping 3.5k miles later .

price for clutch, clutch cylinder and fitting using VW parts is going to be £370 and then find out if it needs a new dual mass flywheel when they go to change the clutch tomorrow, DMF is going to add a further £380 to the bill, but fingers crossed the low mileage and lack of any clutch judder means the original is sound.

price from the dealer for above was over a grand .

You may think that I drive like a loon and simply wasn't symapthetic enough after the map, sadly not the case as my other car is a type r and if I need to vent any frustrations I tend to do so on a clear road with no other folks around.

The Bora daily drive is a 30 mile each way slog on the motroway and the opportunity to bury the throttle and use the torque is pretty limited albeit irresistable when the opportunity presents itself

Other than the immediate need to sort out the suspension with some Eibachs shortly after purchase the car has been a gem and I plan to keep it for a few more years yet unless my job changes.

Hey folks saw this thread and thought I'd stick my oar in as well. I'm new to Boras and looking at getting one - probably a diesel and going on the above a 130 looks like the best bet. What should I be looking for on the forecourts? I know next to nothing about them!

Totally agree with the guys above , go for the 130. A cheap 100 or 115 wouldnt be too bad either if you were on a budget, they can be both remapped to respectable figures but for real fun go for the 130

Avoid 150, too many issues with the turbos, engine etc.... FMIC is great to see but at the end of the day it wont be much advantage over the SMIC unless you are racing on a track for a substantial amount of time!
