VAG COM cable and software

Does anyone know if i can get hold of a VAG COM package and cable for a decent price?
I can get the software from the RossTech site but still require a cable to run the package on the car.


Either that or is there anyone near to Liverpool that wouldnt mind throwing my car onto their VAG COM software and scanning for faults for me.

Ross tech are a good source of all vag com gear. using torrented software is illegal

Ross Tech are active members of this site, and as such do not take kindly to hearing of pirate versions of there software... which is also against the site rules

Shareware version of the software can be downloaded for free from there website, and the fee charged to get a full working licence is reasonable based on the package you purchase.

What are peoples thoughts on the cables all over E bay

Many years ago, I needed a cable in Liverpool it was for my old Audi 80 TDI 1Z to setup the pump timing. Some very helpful chap from Lancashire let me use his for a week and even met me half way to save time!

I've just bought a 2000 Passat V6 TDI which is smoking quite bad so I'll buy a cable this time. If you can wait a week or so for mine to be delivered I'll be happy to help you out, I'm usually in the city centre, Southport or Aintree.

Always happy to return a group favour.

I used a 3rd party cable with a registered version of vag-com with my A4. Now I have a MK5 golf I have upgraded to a MicroCAN interface which cost £199. Its already saved me a fortune and if you are seriusly considering looking after your car its as essential as a socket set

You need the ROSS-TECH cables for the newer VAG-COM software to function. If you only want to read and clear DTC codes then one of the £15 KKL ones on eBay could be fine. Not sure if you require CAN or not....

Either way, it's best not to take a chance when there is usually someone around the corner who has one. If you get no luck, just PM me next week and I should have mine.

Better to go with Ross-Tech.

I was thinking about buying a proper cable a while ago and must say the support I got from Ross-Tech was excellent. They were quick to reply to my queries and know VAG-COM inside out.

I was also tempted to get a cheaper cable, but didn't, as I wasn't sure (1) whether it would work with new CAN bus etc, (2) whether it would cause damage to ECU etc and (3) would leave me with no support on using a potentially complex tool.

To do can-bus cars you have to have a ross-tech dongle.
To run the ross-tech dongle you have to have proper software from ross-tech.
So If you want to do newer cars you can't buy a cable on e-bay, cos it won't work.
