I have installed 409.1 freeware, I have a third party USB interface, when I run the options to set the interface, my laptop finds the interface com3
    says
    port status: ok
    interface: found
    Type: serial pass-through
    Opto/Iso: No
    Ross-Tech Design: No

I cannot get it to connect to my Passat (2003) (B5)

    any help would be appreciated

Dont want to pay for registration if I cannot get it working.

It happens, a geniene cable will cost approx £250 is you look on the ross tech website http://www.ross-tech.com there are authorized suppliers. www.gendan.co.uk and www.ilexia.co.uk.

I have a 3rd party cable and it worked fine with a 1999 A4. Not sue why yours doen't i don't think the 2005 passat is CAN ?

i think about £225 fully registered latest version and with after sales back up or use yor cable and buy a licence for $99.
did you have to install a driver when you brought the cable get in touch with them who you brought cable from.

How the plot thickens, I have had my car connected to VAGCOM version 311 with my old lap top using a 3 rd party interface with a serial connection. The big problem being my new lap top does not have a serial port...
