    Hi All,

I'm in the market for one of the above, the one I'm looking at is the 180bhp, I think there are 155 and 163ps also? Before I go ahead and buy one, I'm just interested in peoples figures for fuel consumption. Any info greatly appreciated (it was a toss up between this and a Merc C220 Cdi Tip!) I used to have a 1998 Audi A6 TDI 115, which was great on the juice, averaged 53mpg. My current VW is returning 49.5MPG on a run.

    Many thanks!

    Good choice

I was getting 40mpg @ 70mph from mine, although that was with a poorly engine. I expect a bit more when she's fixed - hopefully 44-45ish. Average around town was about 34. She's an Avant though, which also costs a couple of mpgs compared to the saloon.

The 180 is a fab engine but have a look around this forum for horror stories of worn cams (and check my sig). Its frightening if it goes wrong, so be sure to do your homework on any prospective purchase!

    Good luck! Mikki

Thanks Mikki. 44-45 and maybe a tad more being the saloon is excellent - I was expecting less. Most of my miles are motorway, and even the ones that aren't 34mpg is still easily comfortable (thinking of the the mileage allowance! )

Unless it has a full audi SH I will be getting the cambelt, pulleys and waterpump etc done when I buy it. (mates a VW mech, so cheap job!) Thanks again.

Calculated over the time I have owned the the vehicle, (two and a half years) my average is 42.5mpg (I record the miles and fuel use as I read somewhere its a good indicator if things start to go pear shaped if fuel use suddenly goes up for no reason). Thats with a mix of pretty much half and half motorway driving and A road / town driving. Mines the 163bhp Avant 111k on the clock, btw. I dont drive particularly conservatively, but neither do I gun it (I image the fuel use would rise alarmingly if so!)

Cheers Mark. I'm liking the figures so far! I get the full mileage allowance from work @ 40p upto 10k, then 25p after that. Based on the info so far I'll still be doing OK.

The best I have ever managed over a tank was 49.3mpg. That was coming back from holiday, with the rest of the family asleep in the car and the majority on Motorway with the cruise set at 60. I'd just like to point out this was purely an excersise to see what it would do, I needed another shave it took so long to get home........

49.3 is near enough what I get from the passat at the moment, but at average of 70-80mph. Most of my driving is on the motorways to be honest, with some town driving thrown in when I go the shops etc. 40-45mpg avergage would be great for such a big car, more comfortable than my passat sport too.

I must admit, I am more than chuffed with the miles I get out of mine for, as you say, a big car with a big engine. I will not be in a rush to replicate the 49 mpg scenario!!!

lol, I bet you won't be in a rush - 60mph in the A6 feels like it is crawling. I had one last year but some muppet smashed into me when he was drunk. There are a few I have my eye on, but they range from the 155 to the 180 (saloons). Tough choice!

Damn it must be tough!!! I have, in idle moments, surfed Autotrader etc thinking about changing mine. But I can never find anything that has the same toys, engine, gearbox, space and MPG that wont cost me another mortgage, so I just keep it (and this is coming from someone who used to change car every 18 months when I had disposable income). Thats about the best reference I can give!
