Hi, first time on your site so please be patient with me!!

I am installing an aftermarket device and have removed the cowling aroung steering column to gain access to some wires I need to take signals from.

In doing so I unplugged the airbag connector (yellow with orange clip) to make access easier. I plugged it back in carefully and it is properly seated however I now have an airbag warning on the display. Is this normal or have I really developed an airbag fault by unplugging and re-plugging the said connector?

Is there a fix for this or must I go to a VW dealer to have it re-set?

    SECOND QUESTION:

The aftermarket device needs to tap into the speed pulse (VSS) can anyone please tell me where to find this wire and how to identify it?

If it is behind the factory radio, can you please tell me how to remove this without damaging the facia?

    Many Thanks,
    Mike M

Hi Macc70, thanks for the reply - does the Code reader reset the fault warning as well as tell you what the fault is?

And - any idea about the VSS pulse - where to pick it up?

    Cheers Mike M

I had a problem with my Audi A3 airbag light for a different reason though.

Whilst your air bag light is on they will not operate at all - just so you know!

If you don't wan to spend anything then, try a member with VAG-com.

You may not of got a fault if you disconnected the battery first

Hi Macc70, thanks again for your help, and to all the other guys who took the time to reply.

1/ Can you tell me how to remove the factory radio without damage to facia please?

2/ Can anyone tell me which is the VSS wire and where it is?

3/ AND are there any on-line wiring diagrams for Golf 5? (i.e. that are free!)

    Many Thanks All,
    Mike M

I would recommend buying a Haynes manual, I have the MK5 its got an excellent wiring diagram in it.
