I was driving home on the m25 this afternoon. (just gone past jnc 8 heading towards the a3 junction )
And noticed this very odd looking carnival trailer abandon on the hard shoulder. Something wasn't right about it had words like 'ticket to the greatest cemetery' written over it. lol anyway, i looked in the rear view mirror and noticed openings, like the ones you see on police camera vans.
Thing is, further down there were no patrol cars/bikes, warnings off speed checks in operation. HOPEFULLY this was an abandon trailer. But it got me thinking, after reading on various motoring sites about police forces in Wales, hiding in horse trailers or cameras in bins (where they belong).

If this was a speed enforcement, this really is shameful of Surrey police. That really doesn't promote road safety at all! Firstly being parked up on the hard shoulder in a unmarked trailer. ...they go mental when you pull over to fix your car! Plus a sentance 'ticket to the greatest cemetery' someone in charge is having a laugh! I was doing 75-80, so should be fine. If i did get a ticket, this truly would be revenue making! Anyone doing 90+ is truly unlucky

Whats everyones opinion on this? ...it was there about 3-4pm just passed Reigate junction. You may have noticed it, as it looked really tacky. It wasn't in a field, literally left on the hard shoulder.

Wouldn't worry mate, firstly it does not sound like it was a scamera van of any sort and secondly 75-80 should not be a problem on 70mph limit motorway.

I'd be surprised if it was a 'safety' camera van in that position. IIRC that would fall outside ACPO guidelines for deployment (anything police on the hard shoulder should have blues running).

not sure really, technically they are supposed to be used at accident black spots where excessive speed has been a factor.....hence why they are highly visible (well it certainly is the case for Gatso's) but then again technically we shouldn't be speeding at any time/ place so I guess in that case they are allowed to be sneaky about it. In my local dockyard the MOD plod have a tendency to jump out from behind buildings with their handheld speed gun things when they hear a fast vehicle- now that is sneaky!

If you check your local police website, it will tell you where all the 'hidden' cameras or speed check areas will be during that day. So unfortunately, if you get caught, there's not much you can do about it.

Hidden or not, if you get caught doing 90+ then there is no one to blame but yourself.
