I have a Mk 4 golf on a 2000 plate. Recently I have not been able to get the rear tail gate wash system to give more than a dribble of water. When operating the jet the resevoir pump seems to make a "fluttering" sound with some liquid been also directed to the front windscreen. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I assume you've done the obvious and checked the level of water in the resevoir? You could have a partially deteched or leaking hose on the rear motor. There are plenty of threads. Do a search. If it is leaking, it'll cause problems with all sorts of electrical bits (not just the wiper, door and lights, for example) as the water causes shorting and corrosion. There could also be a blockage.

Let us know how you get on.

My flow was reduced (ooer) and the problem was a cracked connector where the hose meets the washer motor assembly. Again, just search the forums.

Take the plastic trim off the tailgate, and get someone to operate the rear washer, and it will be immediatley obvious if you have a leak there, believe me!
