    Hi to all!

Have had a scoot through the forum and picked up some useful info!

currently run a tired t4 800 special with 200k miles and a host of problems! but still returning 37mpg empty or full!!!!!!

time for a change so will be collecting a T5 t30 130ps lwb on a 05 plate with 69k miles

the van is an ex lease with service history and i'm assuming ( will check tomorrow) that it has had cam belt change!

Any tips or pointers for things to keep an eye on would be much appreciated.

oh i paid £6.5k and got £850 for the t4 in px!!??

    Cheers

All I know is I`m buying the 1900 t5 as the 2.5 on high miles is a bag of ***** so all I hear.
So I have already bought the chip to upgrade it to 127 bhp
So simple a mod,but already have mods 1,2,3 at the ready.

Lets put it this way I would swap my 85bhp 1.9 TDI T5 for my mate's 174bhp Sportline T5 all day long.

Also, when chipping it, going by the rule book you should inform the insurance company (not that everyone does ), not something you need to do with the 2.5 TDI.

I always declare all my mods in fact the insurance company were not really interested on my business insurance when I put an enquired in,as I run an rs2000 with so many mods I need 2 a4 sheets of paper not really worried about thos things
I dont want blown head gaskets, water pumps leaking into oil ways and gearbox problems so inherent with 2.5`s
Oh but the way my info on the 2.5 came from a seasoned V/W mechanic of 35 years.
I`ve been around the engine tuning/modding business for nigh on 40 years

The 6 speed 1.9 TDIs have problems too, in fact all 6 speed Transporters do. Or should I say more problems than the 5 speed ones (which mine is).

But its not that bad. The original poster will still get himself an excellent van.

I have an early 174 and it did originally have loads of problems which were all fixed under the 3 year warranty. I know I probably shouldn't say this but it has been brilliant for the last two years. The 174s are just great to drive and I have had no problems so far with the gearbox. Oddly enough I read there is a workshop action for the 1.9 gearboxes but not the 2.5.

No cam belt on the 2.5 engines it's all done by gears Not long to wait now Purplemax....
