    Hello,
I've a 98 Model with 120 miles on the clock.

I left it in a car park and when I came back all 4 windows where wide open - fortunately nothing stolen. The key fob battery is flat so I've been locking it 'manually' i.e. turning key myself - for a while ow.

What do you reckon caused this? How big a job to fix?

    Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

    thanks

Hi Goat. Get your key fob sorted out first. You may have a fault but also another cars key fob may have affected your car. (Sounds stupid but it does happen.) Once your fob is ok you can wait to see what is happening. A code read will tell you if any fault codes have been logged.

    Martin,
Thanks for that - out of interest how common is it for other keys to intefere? Presumably any VW/Audi/Skoda etc. can interact with each other and cause a problem?

Can't remember the make but I once saw a car in sainsbury car park cut out and alarm come on due to another person opening their car with their remote so silly things can happen.

Sounds like our friend the plenum chamber again. getting into the CCM and causing the central locking problems.

    Look here for more assistance.
Nothing to see here, move along..

Hi This fault is usually caused by the micro switch in the door lock.It has not been activated, since you have been using the key fob,to lock and unlock the vehicle. You have now started to use the key,and i think the micro switch is sticking.

If it is related, I had a similar fault where the windows would all go down when i locked the car using the remote.

I found that the tiny cable that joins the Drivers door handle to the lock mech was too tight , causing the CCM to think the door was still open.

Remove the door lock via the small torx bolt thru the side of the door , unclip the door handle cable and move it down one notch. There is no need to remove any door panels and winder mechs.

    Dave.
