Hi i'm new to the forum, and i am looking for some advice if possible.

I recently bought a VW passat and i have just serviced it today, after the service i started the car up and oil started to come out the back of the exhaust. It has stopped a short while after, and i haven't seen it do it since. But the reason i done the service was because it seemed like it was burning oil. The car has done 147,000 miles and has full VW service history with the last service being done at 140,000 miles. i found that the car was just under the bare minimum on the dipstick at 147,000 should my car be burning that much oil between the 140,000 and 147,000 mark ? I have also found that i am not getting very good MPG with the car either.

I was wondering if all the symptoms i am telling are related? I have a VAG com and no faults are showing up for the temp sensor or air mass metre.

I am wondering if there is something wrong thanks for your help

    Questions

Is it a petrol or diesel?

Was the oil coming out of the exhaust burnt (i.e smoking) or dripping like a liquid?

Does the car feel flat and not pull well?

My diesel has 220k miles and I have to top it up at least once between normal service intervals (10k), nothing to worry about, and mine gets about 55mpg day in day out.

    HTH.

Well if it's stopped chucking out oil, and is running well, I'd be inclined to leave well alone for the moment, until you've put a couple of tanks through it. It could be that you've put a little too much oil in it when refilling.
