    Hi all.

    I have a 2003 Bora S 1.9tdi. It's a 100pd.

I am considering servicing it myself, it has just had the belt done and has 63000 miles upon it.

Mechanically speaking I am not unfamiliar with a spanner, or a socket set for that matter, but before I go diving in under the bonnet and sump, I'd like some help and advice from you all!!

SO, if I wanted to service it myself, what should I actually change and renew?

    I'm thinking the following...

Air filter, fuel filter, oil+oil filter.....

Is there anything else I should be doing/ changing?

    Thanking you all, in advance.

Oh, I know how to reset the timing 'clock' too!

    Andy!

Thats about it to be honest as far as changing/renewing goes.

The brake fluid should be done every 2 years I think. The rest is just a case of checking and replacing if neccessary e.g brakes etc.

Best thing to do is get a service checklist.

Seen as your cambelt is done... you can save yourself alot of money by doing the services yourself for the next 60k when the cambelt is next due.

Good luck with and take some pics if you can.

    Thanks for that Loofer.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to the most appropriate kind of oil to use?

If your car is on the time/distance sercvice schedule (i.e 10k miles/12 months) then you need to look for 5w 40 oil that meets this spec 505.01. That has been specificly developed for turbo desel engines that have pump injector units (PD).
I bought this one from Halfords last weekend as they had an offer on
    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...tegoryrn_77307

If your car is on the LongLife regime then you need 5w 30 oil. I think the current spec for this is 507. Castrol do this in their Edge range.

    All done.

£48 in total for the lot.

Oil was a fully synthetic 5w40 VW505.01 PD.

Am a tad worriedI might have overfilled though, put the full 5 litre in without thinking to check.

Had fully drained the old oil first.
