Ring 3 other dealers (Scunthorpe, Lincoln and Rotherham for example) and you'll find the service cost might come down as they often price match.

The 40k service is a big one though so £217 isn't a bad price.

Note that, however, if you use an indy for servicing up to the 3 year/60k mark is fine - but if something breaks at 60,001 miles, VW probably won't extend any "good will" your way.

Whereabouts in East Yorks are you? Mine is due a service in a few thousand miles (a couple of months, though it will be at 75K by then) so I wouldn't mind finding out which you use in the end.

I phoned for a price on a timing belt change at York JCT600 and was quoted £429. Not due until 80K apparently so will get some more prices nearer the time.

My 40k was £310! so your £217 seems pretty good to me. I'm having a 60k service tomorrow and i've been quoted £240

Well, I've been quoted £360 for my first (2 year, 14,000 mile) service at VW Twickenham, west London. Anybody got a suggestion for somewhere cheaper?
And while we're on the subject, anybody know what the difference is between the 2 year "Manufacturers warranty" and the follow-on 1 year "Retailers warranty"?

    Cheers.

That seems steep, but suggest you're on variable timing... Try ringing around other VW dealers for a price and try to get yours to price match.

I've just had my 37K long life service including brake fluid change for £235. Was quoted by VW in Sutton Coldfield and after much effort Vw Worcester matched it.
