    Eyup Lads/Ladies,

I noticed the other day on my mark 4 golf gti tdi that when i accelerate and the turbo kicks in there is a bit of hiss. It almost sounds like a quite dump valve. It's not loud I just wanted to know if this was normal or I might have a slight leak in one of the hoses Any light shed on this would be kl Cheers

You normally can hear a slight hiss when the turbo is spinning up but if you think its unusually loud then there may be a slight boost leak. If the car is running fine with no noticeable loss of power or no excessive smoke from the exhaust when under acceleration then its probably nothing to worry about

Look at the intercooler hose - you can see it under the front offside wing in front of the wheel arch. It's more easily accesible if you undo the bottom three whell arch liner screws (torx head). If you can get somebody to rev the car while you look and listen you may find the hiss is coming from there. I agree with the above comment - I did a 500 mile round trip to London with it hissing and still got high mpg and no noticeable power loss. I had it put back on when I got back. Also look at the post by bparsons1984 on 29-01-2009 for more about this problem.
