    Right then freaks.

Got the car last week, it is a Final Edition C5 Avant with the 130hp 1.9 pd TDI engine. Not the fastest car in the world especially considering its size but it is perfect for my needs, i.e Family. Got it for a song as well !!!

What I intend to do is post up whenever I feel like it anything that is significant in my ownership of it.

Having spent last Sunday cleaning the interior including feeding the leather my attention this weekend to switched the exterior and getting it sorted mechanically. I did do a basic service on Monday night, that being Oil & Filter, Air, Fuel and Pollen filters.

    Anyway, some exterior shots;

Nice bit of bead-age on the roof and rails !

From 2001 onwards I think, they all came with Sports suspension as standard. To me the ride height is perfect, it could however do with some 18's on it .....

Moving on, yesterday got the Cambelt, Cambelt tensioner, Cambelt idler pulley, Waterpump, Aux belt tensioner, Aux belt and the aircon belts changed !

Interestingly, although the car had a full Audi service history with the belt being done at 80k, now at 111k the waterpump was shot, was leaking, the cambelt idler pulley had quite a lot of end float on it as did the auxbelt tensioner. My advice is to insist these are changed when you have your belts done. The other thing is the cambelt interval, on this car it is 80k, on the PD engined VW's I've had it has always been 60k.

A few piccies below of the engine and new belts as fitted...

I also had each wheel off and gave it a proper clean, waxed them. Also cleaned off the calipers and painted them to tidy them up as they are highly visible through these wheels.

Could have gone for boy racer red but thought the calipers in Satin Black are more in keeping with the car.

A few piccies below of the interior (not cleaned since last week, so a bit dusty !

Over all I'm well chuffed with it. A luxo wafting barge for very little money. Why have a company car when I can have the cash and drive something like this.

[edit] Big thanks to Chris (Adams24) for the cambelt work yesterday

Best check the plenum chamber drain holes are clear before water ingress spoils your day. Search on Plenum Chamber on here. A quick test is to wash the winscreen with a hose then list the bonnet and remove the battery cover and look down the right hand side of the battery, there should be no water accumulating there. You may also be able to see water dripping/triggling down each side of the bear box. One drain hole is unber the battery and the other is right under the brake servo. Nice car. Regards Peter

    Peter,

I'm aware of this problem and cleared the drain hole under the servo (which you can just about reach) when I did the Monday night service. It was actually clear. I did run the hose into the plenum to wash any additional crap out. I would have also done the drain under the battery but at the moment I don't have the code for the RNSE unit. I will do that when I've got the code.

    Very, very nice Col.

This is what A6 ownership does to you!

I reckon 9 spoke 17s would look fab on it, but the wheels on it are immaculate so unless the tyres are low on tread I'd leave as is for now... I'm sure you think similar though.

Checked for the alternator pulley problem? I've replaced them on both my PD TDIs.

You're not going to let the OH drive it are you? Otherwise your wheels won't look so good for long! I made the mistake of letting the wife free on the car.

I reckon it NEEDS some 18" RS6 5 spokes to set it off !

But the wheels are going to stay as is for the time being. They are indeed in very very good condition with only a very few nicks out of them, but not on the rims, mainly stonechip damage on the faces.

I really did have to clean them properly as they have such big windows between the spokes you can see right through. Lots of time with wheel cleaner and tar remover brought them up like new. Thing is, they are going to be a right bugger to keep clean on the insides. I did of course have to do the calipers as well which really don't look that good in the pics but really do tidy up the appearance in real life.

Looking into retro-fitting heated seats now ! Seen kits on the bay for £50 for two seats. Hmmmm.

That's one thing you definitely miss... well in winter anyway! Sometimes its like sitting on a rather comfy, cold bog! Without the smell of course...

I know its your thread... but please don't mention red brake calipers... that's something I've been meaning to do (also got Audi decals for the calipers) and just never done it.

Dont dont them red, red is ok for Golfs and A3's and at a push an A4.

Red does not become an A6, especially a dark one. ('ark at me being hoity toity and opinionated)

It has got to be black or silver.

Have you got heated seats in your?
If so, tomorrow can you do me a favour and let me know what colour connectors you have underneath and how many connetors? I have had a look at mine and it seems that there are two many connectors for whats there i.e airbag plus leccy height control, I have 3 connectors.

It would be a real bonus if they were there already in the seats. I live in hope.

D'oh I don't know what to do with my calipers now.

And nope, no heated seats in mine either.

Mine has the sport seats though, a bit different to yours, and has airbags, electric lumbar support and height control in them. Not sure how many connectors but I can still have a look tomorrow.

Part way through the 2nd tank of fuel and I've got a range figure of

745 indicated plus 161 driven equals a total range of 906 miles on one tank.

Amazing for such a big car.
