Can someone help? Not my usual VW forum but...

We collected an 08 Passat Bluemotion yesterday from a dealer and suspect we're being spun a line?

Key has 3 buttons, Doors open/locked and Boot open - boot button lights but nothing happens. Dealer claims button is a dummy on some fobs? It lights the fob LED so I'm guessin it works??

However, boot release button in drivers door is also not working, I suspect there's a motor/mech issue. They're claiming it's fine, but they'll look into it...I'm gonna play merry hell on Mon but pal suggested I check here that it is a feature on car??

    Any assistance greatly app'd

Both the keyfob button and button in the car door should open the boot, and the boot lid should open fully.

Only time mine lights up and doesn't open is when the seals are frozen solid, so have to help it open by hand when temps are freezing. But even then you do hear the release mechanism working. Do you hear anything mechanical when you press either button, similar to the car door opening mechanism? If not then it is a fault, as I can't believe they would provide "dummy" buttons for the Bluemotion and not provide this feature.

For the Passat S the brochure states this, and the Bluemotion is a higher spec car so would include it:
    – Automatic boot opening

Sounds like utter b**llocks to me.

Take it back to the dealer, and tell them to get it sorted. I believe the remote opening function for the boot can be de-activated on the computer. You might suggest he starts there.

You might also make other suggestions to him; I know I would.

Nope, not a thing. As for the auto boot opening, does that refer to the tailgate auto lifting? Know thats an option on some, but didn't think it was the S/SE/Bluemotion

I've already had that conversation, he was supposed to ring me Friday but not as yet...I'll be up there Mon AM. I even mentioned it being programmed off, but he tried to twaddle on with the 'dummy' spiel...

    Cheers for replies fellas

I think I'd be more upset that the dealer thought I was stupid enough to believe him....

Silly question, but is it an Estate as that button only unlocks the boot as I think the tailgate swinging open would be a safety hazard.

As JTW states, this is a feature of the four door only, not the estate. If yours is a four door you need to keep the boot button held in for a few seconds to open it automatically, if it's an estate it doesn't open automatically, despite the button still being there.

Yep its an estate, but the button does nothing, neither does the fob...regardless of whether car is moving/stationary, engine on/off.
It's a fault, I'm certain, its going back to 'em to sort

If you check out the VW web site, go to the Passat technical section, it clearly states that the 4 door has this as standard, but the electric tailgate on the estate is a £289 option.

If you didn't order it, you won't have it. All Passats have the same key symbols regardless of whether it's a 4 or 5 door, it's just that without the option the boot symbol does nothing.

See, now I did that already but I think thats the auto closing option??

I'm talking about just simply unlocking the tailgate, in the same way as pressing the button on the tailgate does... why provide me with 3 buttons to unlock it, when 2 of them don't work?
