HI. has anyone any ideas why my A4 1.9tdi 115 Avant has developed a severe judder on the steering wheel. This only happens at speed and generally when you decelerate. The wheel pulls for left to right in your hand but the car remains in a straight line. It feels like a power steering problem but I don't want to replace the pump if there is anything else to try first. Fluid levels are fine & belts tight.

    Thanks

Thanks but not wheels. I tried it again today and it only happens:
    1) once the car hs covered about 10 miles.
    2) whern traveling at speed on the motorway
    3) when you take your foot off the accelerator or
4)If you push down the clutch & therefore drop the revs

my thoughts are that the power steering pump is knackered and once the oil gets warm and the pump is spinning fast the delivery of the oil is not consistant when you reduce the speed of it by dropping the revs.....any one got ay better ideas?

    Thanks

lack of oil would only make the steering heavy,i don't think it would judder or pull to one side,
especially on the motorway, you should be able to drive for miles without too much hassle.
    regards,
    stewy.

ok I was just asking if you had tried that. Have you tried cleaning the MAF and cleaning the carbon out of the engine? I had something similar when I first got my A4 and after a major service and cleaning the MAF and throttle body it has gone
