Hi, i have a VW Passat Estate 1.9 TDi (R-Reg). I need to get a tow bar fitted, a friend of mine suggested ebay. Thought about buying one and fitting myself; however after looking at the underside of my car i cant seem to find anyway of fitting one. Should there be fixing holes / somewhere to wire in the electrics? Also, i would need to attach a work light to the side of the tow bar. How could i wire this in / turn it on/off from a switch on the dash?

    Many thanks,

    Al

i fitted 1 to my 03 passat est, removal of rear bumper, and bar slides into chassis.and holes kindly pre drilled by vw thru floor, remove rear impact bar behind bumper, use same holes again,so no obvious signs of bar fitting.the site mentioned is good, you can print off fitting instructions, can be all done in 2hrs,then retire to pub!

Would you be interested in a genuine VW detachable tow bar with electrics ? Brand new and never fitted. When the ball is detached, the electrics swing up behind the bumper and you can't tell there is a towbar fitted.
Dealer price is around £300. Tow Equipe price for similar is around £225. I'd like £175. I'd even be happy to assist with fitting if you like ...

    Cheers

Hate you ? No. I don't understand your post enough to hate you !

If you are saying you got a genuine VW detatchable tow bar and electrics for £70, then you ought to buy more, as that is a steal and you will easily make considerable profit on them.
If you have a fixed ball no make bar, then a good price but nothing special, and you now have an ugly lump sticking permanently out the back of your car.

in english.i have a detatchable 2nd hand towbar, with plug in elecs for £70.no,i cannot buy more, but as i have 1 on my car,why would i ?as for genuine vw,i dont know, but unlike cars,i know vw dont genuinely make towbars, they buy them from towbar manufacturers, and sell them in vw boxes,so i may have a genuine vw detatchable towbar, but no box?
