Brake trouble

Hi,
Just drove home with the following problems...
When I release the brake pedal I get 3 beeps from the dash board and the brake warning light flashes.
Pedal can also be pushed all the way to the floor but can be pumped back up, only to slowly fall if pushed firmly. Not good.
Brakes work fine and no VAG COM faults reported.
Any ideas?
A chap in a garage reckoned it is probably the ABS modulator?
Sounds expensive.
Any help gladly accepted.

it wont be the abs modulator as the abs light would come on and vag-com would pick this fault up, i know as i have just replaced my abs pump and modulator. Have you checked brake fluid level? brakes could need bleeding or maybe a small hole in one of your brake pipes (corrosion) which is leaking brake fluid very slowly, check these first.
