I've been looking at ways of improving the fuel economy on my 2.4 A4. Other than the obvious of having a lighter right foot, i've seen (mainly on ebay) so called economy chips which i know is basically a resistor, and also magnets which connect to your fuel line. Has anyone tried anything along these lines and are they effective.

I've been averaging 22-25mpg as i drive mainly A-roads but it would be nice to get something closer to the low 30's.

Not sure I'd trust something like that. Don't they use them to trick the auto choke into thinking it's colder and thus use more fuel?

A lighter foot really is the only way I'm afraid.

I run the A6 2.8 quattro on the left there and regularly get 32 - 33 mpg. More if cruising the M-way.

And I don't drive like a granny - not yet anyway.

    Smoothness is the key...

My previous car was a 206 gti which just loved having foot to the floor driving and could still pull off over 30mpg, guess i need to learn how to drive properly now then

lol - I prefer the term 'more sedately'

Think of it as being kind to it and once in a while it'll reward you by going like stink when you boot it.

Ok then. I'm now thinking that my starting problem which i posted on a previous thread could be related to my low mpg. I was advised to change the MAF sensor by another member. Maybe i should try that first.

Would't say i really have those symptoms, it just doesn't like starting on a warm engine. Might be worth cleaning it though before purchasing a new one.
