My wife got stuck in some snow when driving our Bora 2005 1.6 highline. She managed to get it free but now the clutch is juddering in first gear and there is a constant burning smell from engine compartment. Has the clutch gone? Any advice would be appreciated. Like can I drive it!

Yes she has killed the clutch and probably the flywheel will be heat damaged. At least it is a basic single mass set up and not as expensive as TDI’s. A clutch kit from Sachs or LUK will cost about £100 plus £60 odd for an exchange VAG flywheel and then four hours labour, roughly £200.

hello and welcome to forums, particularly this one.
i presume you got those quotes from a main dealer. it may pay to shop around. im sure searching on here you will find better prices for those jobs. only you can decide whether to change car or not. obviously yours is worth not a lot needing a new clutch. you would have to let it go cheap to get shot of it, or get the work done and sell it. this solution puts us back to square one really. unless you spend lots of money on a brand new or nearly new car with a warranty, you may find your new purchase needs as much if not more spending on it within a short space of time. i would get the work done and hang on to it myself, but then its your money, and your decision to make.
good luck, whatever you decide to do.

That is about right for a clutch fitted at a specialist, probably a little more at the dealer. It is strongly advised to do a complete assembly and I normally fit an LUK flywheel/clutch which comes pre-assembled. The price for rear axle bushes is steep though. They are a lovely car and worth caring for if you want to keep it but you will not get your money back, it is a labour of love.
