On my normal search of the web for all things car related. I came across this a article on the autocar website about Middle lane hoggers

    Copy of article below

Drivers who sit in the middle lane of the motorway should be prosecuted by the police, a survey of nearly 2000 drivers has found.
Of those surveyed, 73 per cent said they thought police should tackle so called ‘middle-lane hogs’.
Figures from the RAC claim that the equivalent of up to 700 miles of motorway are lost during peak periods because of drivers sitting in the middle lane when the inside lane is empty.
The police have the power to stop drivers for poor lane discipline and can prosecute a driver for inconsiderate driving.
The Highways Agency ran campaigns in 2005 and 2008 using the variable message signs on motorways to tell drivers to keep left.

Please let this become law and I will believe in God

Lane hoging is an offence, I'm not sure (will check) but I think it comes under the offence of 'Driving with un due care and attention' the problem is we don't have proper trafic cops any more they now have multi roles so don't patrol the motorways in the numbers that they used too, the result of this is that in the last 20 years motorway driving has become very sloppy, not talking speed just general driving standards.

It drives me mad. They clearly aren't paying much attention to the road & what's going on around tem. Either that or they don't actually know 'the rules of the road'. Either way they should be stopped & told to sort it out. Before now I've had to move from the inside lane, across the middle to the outside & back again because of tawdling pillocks on the middle. I've even hoped that me doing that may just jolt a little bit of consciousness into the slack-jawed drooling imbeciles, but alas, no such luck!!

Some of them are just plain stubborn. Last week I had a heated discussion with a lad at work, who I overtook on the inside on my way home the previous day. I was stuck behind him in the outside lane of a dual carriageway for a couple of miles, the inside lane was empty for as far as you could see. His argument was "I was doing 70mph, it's a 70 limit, so why should I move over to let you past?"

Unfortunately this is a common excuse.

Two wrongs don't make a right, just because he is doing 70mph doesn't give him the right to limit the speed of other road users. I think it was Road Wars or similar that a **** like that actually did it to an unmarked police car, I beleive the outcome was that he lost his licence, I think they took his actions as a form of road rage.
