Can anyone enlighted me as to the size of discs on my car? There seems to be some dubiety???

My car is a 2003 VW Bora TDi 150 Sport. I have several different views ranging from 288mm to 312mm....some well informed knowledge would be great

What size are your standard alloys ? If they are 15" then you have 288mm brakes, if you have 16" then you likely to have 312mm as they wont fit under 15" alloys. If in doubt, take the brake disc to your local spares shop and compare it with the new one.

As far as I can tell

up to 130bhp has 280mm discs

    130bhp to 170 has 288mm discs (including early V5's)

    170 + bhp (late V5's, V6's and 1.8T 180's) has 312mm discs.

If your still unsure get the tape measure out.

    Hi adamss24

My car is fitted with 16" alloys as standard. Even from some of the replies there is some dubiety????

Surely some of the more informed forum members must know for sure?

the best way to tell for sure is to jack it up and remove a wheel. then measure the disc. it can be a bit tricky to get an exact measurement as you have to measure away from the disc, so using two straight edges either side of the disc helps.

Or use a piece of string to measure the circumference of the disc (you'll have to thread it through the caliper), then use a calculator to divide that by 3.1415 to give the diameter.
