It's not for sale! It sounds like my car! Exact description.
I paid £6500 for mine in May 06 with 112,000 miles.
I thought this was a bit too much at the time, but was without a car and desperate and only like diesel automatics. If I was in the same position again, I wouldn't get it, I don't think it was worth the money. It's a pretty boring car and the quality and attention to detail isn't any better than many cheaper cars such as high-end Vectras and Mondeos, and it's almost BMW 320d money.

I'd say £5500 for a 51 with 127k is a bit expensive. I'd offer £4795 and see what they say.

Can't agree with Snapdragon I'm afraid. I'm on my second, a 54 plate, and think they're excellent workhorses - quiet, smooth and plenty of performance. Well screwed together too.

With the miles on the one that you're looking at I'd check the service history carefully. Make sure it had a cambelt change at 80k and take a look at the discs to make sure they're not scored or rusty at the outer edges. The engine should be good for 250k without major overhaul but the turbos can soot up. Run the car on a light throttle for half a mile or so then give it the gun whilst looking out the rear view mirror. If there's a lot of smoke, the turbo is starting to soot up the manifold and the only cure is to take it off and clean it out. No parts cost but a messy job thatll cost about £450.

By the way, there's no such thing as a V6 Highline. Check former postings for full spec details.

    Good luck

There, is, mine says it on all the paperwork, and on a label under the carpet in the boot.

as has already been said, i disagree completley. the entire VAG range, especially the diesels, are workhorses and serviced properly, will return in excess of 250k on the engine..... there aren't many vectras, nor mondeos that will reach that kind of mileage. BMW are a different 'league' in their own right, not having much experience with them i wouldnt comment, but with the cost of servicing and general maintenance, you'd soon find yourself worse off..... if a neogtiation on the price isnt possible, try to get as many extras thrown in as possible, in particular with the warranty, being a 51 plate i think im right in saying its outside the manufacturer warranty. get them to extend the warranty period to 12 or even 24 months if they will and make sure that the claim limit is high enough to cover a major failure if one should occur.

as has already been said, check the service history thoroughly, check all discs and pads for rusting, this occurs quickly when the car is stood and although sometimes can simply be surface rust, if the cars been left too long it can actually rust away the discs etc etc, so make sure they're sound. timing belt & tensioner is crucial, techincal advice from VW now states every 60k or every 4 years for this later engine... make sure its been done, if not, its up to them to do it before you buy it, otherwise youll find your warranty will not cover against failure due to that component.

when you check the turbo and manifold for sooting up, be sure to take the revs beyond 3k, if you feel a lack of power or the car enters into limp mode, you have a possible MAF/Turbo issue.

other than that, check all front & rear suspension bushes, front anti roll bar links/bushes, front wishbones/bushes. just have a general look around the car, check for obvious accident damage and check everything works as it ought to, eg the windows go up and down (regulators are known to fail), air con/climate control functions properly, trip display is clear and bright, all lights (interior and exterior) work without fault, if the dreaded boot light fault is present, leave that for the dealer to sort.

apart from that, they are good solid cars, the few faults that are common, are minor niggles and i wouldnt say anything mechanically is inherintley flawed in these cars
