On a Audi A3 2001, AUM engine with 111K miles, I am getting a fault code 17608 Boost Pressure Control Valve N249 mechanical malfunction. P1200-35-00.
Having read various posts, many people have lots of fault codes including the above but this is the only one appearing. When clearing the code, and starting the car there no codes appear, but as soon as its reved, the code appears.

    Any ideas please. Thanks

the ecu map value requested boost pressure is not matching actual intake circuit air pressure - may be too high or too low

    the N249 must be changed

your aum also has map sensor @ smic right side of engine compartment near headlight back shell & directly down about 100mm/4in

this may also be malfunctioning/no longer reading intake circuit pressure correctly

Thanks for the reply. I am unlikely to get the car back for a few weeks. Is there any problems driving the car with this fault code. What are the symptons.

when valve malfunctions / broken engine turbo boost will fluctuate - I would not drive car in this condition

it can possibly be brittle rubber hose leaking charge air

valve + map sensor must be checked

Your turbo is over boosting cos I had the same problem, I suggest you look up Turbo Clinic Uk. They explained what was happening then sorted it out with no more problems, unfortunatly I haven't got there number but i'm sure it will be on the internet.

Thanks Leadspaul, do you know what they replaced. I am hoping to do the work myself.

I had to send the turbo to them and then they did what ever that was. I don't know exactly what it was that they replaced but something was sticking causing it to over boost I know that much.
