    Is there any other way to clear fault codes (check engine light is on). I have cleared thermostat problem which caused it, just need to clear codes to get rid of warning light ?

    You need some form of fault code clearing equipment.

    That's what I thought I'd have to do, there's no way doing it by disconnecting the battery then ?

    No, the memory is non volatile. I have fitted ECU's that have been on the shelf for years and they still have codes on from the old car.
