    Hi
I have a 2.0l 2008 sharan which has started to develop this very peculiar problem, sods law everytime i take it to the garage it won't do it for them, its as if it knows!
Anyhow, the problem materialises at around 2400rpm and there is a brief central sounding metal on metal sound and the car lurches forward a tad.
If you are cruising on the motorway at these revs it seems to go quite fluttery. Seems easy enough to drive through the problem as it only seems to be doing it in a very specific rev range, but it can't be right.
Also some mornings when i switch it on it sounds like a stray bolt or something is bouncing around, engaging the clutch and lifting to bite point seems to stop it, so i'm thinking flywheel, either way ain't a problem that's going to fix itself.
Was wondering if anyone had any experience of this kind of problem or could offer me any pearls of wisdom.
    Much appreciated.

could be the dmf then. difficult to be 100 % certain until its out though, and even then they can look fine, so if a new one cures it, and a clutch, slave etc.., then yes, that was it.

cheers m8, that doesn't sound good, is that how a dmf starts to go ?
If i have to replace the dmf i suppose i have to replace everything it lives against...?

I know its a bit of a how long is a piece of string question but "How long do you think i can continue driving it for?"

i was driving it today and it made the noise a few times, mainly accelerating in 2nd gear, the sound though sounded like it was more over the offside wheel area.

My massive dilemma is i'm leaving to drive to pau in south france with the family next week (great timing) and i'm wondering if i chance covering the 2000 miles if i drive it proper carefully because i don't even know if i'd be able to get the work done in time actually????

How long would a job like this take do you think?

    your time is much appreciated

its basically a days job, parts are easy to get from any factors. 2000 miles, i wouldn't risk that, but you do need a definate diagnosis first. i might test drive it and tell you its actually a wheelbearing. chances are it is the dmf but i would hate for you to get it changed and for that to not be the problem, but even so, whatever is wrong you would be mad to do 2k like it, just incase the car blows up.

Yeah, i would be mad to drive it. just shelled out 400 quid to fit new air con compressor so i'm clutching at straws.
The diagnostic is the hard part but it seems to be doing it more now so i may have a chance of the mechanic hearing it, i'd love it to be wheel bearing but my gut tells me its going to be way more expensive that that
I had it remapped bout a month ago and i think the extra power and my stupid extra heavy right foot has just over stressed something or as the wife puts it "you've broken it haven't you, again!"

Any recommendations for parts or any i should avoid?

Also and i know its a long shot but anyone know anyone in manchester that is a whizz with these dmf jobs...

    My thanks to all

Well i did the round trip to south france, 2200 miles and no failures.
Still makes the same noise, now i'm getting used to where it is (at 2400rpm) i can hold it and it sort of has a metal rubbing sound and does little surges forward on and off, on and off, on and off.
Doesn't seem to be getting any louder or worse, clutch specialist checked out the dmf and gearbox and gave it a thumbs up.
Also had the wheel bearing and suspension checked, all hunky dory.
    Stone cold mystery this one.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
