Hi Im New and got a quick question,

First a little introduction, I have a Audi A3 1.6 sport 1999 on a T reg recently got it and am enjoying it, had the normal problem with installing a aftermarket headunit in still havn't resolved that.

Anyway back to the question, my mate put in these bora sport dials in his golf and the guy that fitted them unlocked some stuff from the ecu wen he installed them. What i want to no is can i install a trip compuer if i buy a set of dials and the stalk that has the trip computer function.

P.S sorry for the lengthy post

    It's a lot of work.

You would need the cluster, the stalk, bits of loom & connectors and all the various sensors it uses. You would then need to get Audi to encode the replacememt cluster to work with your keys/ECU or the immobiliser wont work stopping the car from running. Their are two different types of cluster though they look the same, the wiring in the back is different. They changed when the facelift model came out in 2000 (easy way to tell what one you have is the older one has an analogue clock, new a digital clock)

I planned to do it but never did it due to all the work. You also need a sensor for the ambient air temp, washers level and possibly more so I gave it a miss.

What was HU issue? Back speakers not working? I used the adaptor for that for a while but it caused the amp to hum. Later on I bypassed the amp when I put new speakers in, the bass in the boot is next to useless anyhow.

Thanks for the info probably leave the Stalk Installation,

the headunit was the rear speakers ive ordered a adpater but am waiting for it in the post, the humming was it really apparent? did it ruin the sound of music, how did you bypass it? did you run the speakers straight from the headunit to the rear speakers?

its noticable a hum but not overtly loud. I did away with the adaptor loom and wired the rear speakers straight to my Kenwood head unit as it was 35watts per channel which was fine for my needs.

I believe the hum can be eliminated by rewiring the power to the amp (toy!) straight to the battery via some better shielded wire.
