hi, I'm still having problems... i changed upper inter cooler pipe, loose fitting,to no avail.

found a hole in the solid vacumn pipes. this i believe has stopped it going into limp mode , as it has not done it since.

the whistling noise is still present

    economy down by about 20%

put the foot down a little the other day here's what i got in 3rd gear

    2500 rpm 40mph
    3500 rpm 60-70 mph

i can not feel the turbo kick in although i can hear a whistle at about 1200 rpm

there are no signs of damage to the turbo,no oil, no smoke, even when i floor it.

i drove it about 30 mins ago and in third from 2000- 3500rpm i felt no sudden increase in power

this has led me now to think that it may be a turbo fault

it is throwing no codes up whatsoever.

    anyone got any ideas?

My AVF was doing something similar, however the boost was coming in hard at higher rpm in the lower gears, by the time I was hitting 3500 rpm in 3rd 3rd it would generally go into 'limp mode' triggering an overboost code.
Can you go into measuring blocks with Vag com and check the MAP sensor?
I did this and was not happy with what I saw. New sensor was £38 +vat
Worth looking into before you do the turbo imo?

i have a geniscan gs200 but it doesn't throw out any codes, i unplugged the MAP sensor, it threw up 2 codes, i plugged it back in and deleted the codes and they haven't appeared again, therefore i presume the map sensor is ok.

the noise i have coming through the exhaust is only heard through the intermediate box, which increases with the engine speed.

another thing i've noticed is when i get out of the car i can smell very strong fumes straight outside the drivers door, could it be the cat that has gone?would that show up on an emissions test?and what kind of noise would it make? you can't hear the noise on idle.

i have the sound on my pc but i can't attach it to this.

if anyone can help, i'll send them it so that they could listen to it....

    cheers

For what it's worth, mine did not give a code for the MAP sensor at all, only for overboost which was being caused by the MAP sensor.

If you only got this problem when the noise appeared (as said in your other thread) then you need to get to the bottom of that first. Maybe try to pressure test the intake system? I.e. disconnect and plug the boost hose from the turbo and disconnect the other end from the manifold fit some kind of adapter and see if it holds say 10 psi?
If leaking, you should be able to find where from

Why not post the noise on youtube and link it on here?

Can you disconnect the boost pipe and visually check that the turbo is spinning and not jammed?

    Hi

MAP sensor is mounted on the hard plastic intake pipe accross the back of the engine. (Just in front of the battery area).
