OK, £100 odd per hour and possibly a solution plus some parts. None franchised non VAG experienced garage at half the dealer labour, takes four times as long to find the same solution and same parts maybe more equals twice the cost. Time and motion…

So what you want is someone to give you the solution for free so you can fix it?

Simple rule, read the codes and act on any found. Otherwise, no codes, no power, new genuine VAG exchange AMM-simple.

I'm glad my advice to disconnect it and test that it works well is good.

Glad it's all up for speed now and working fine, thats the main thing.

Running 2 years with it being broken is probably more worse, then running a few miles with the MAF,AVM or whatever it's called being disconnected for a while.

Main thing is, it's working now, regardless or not wether it's genuine or not

It being a 97 probably means the car is a Golf 3? The Golf 3 had a Pierburg AMM which was much more reliable than the Bosch part used on the Golf 4.

You could do with posting this in the appropriate Passat section. Is your Passat a 3A or 3B. The chassis number will tell you, wvwzzz3A or 3B. PM me a link when you have done this.
