The reason I posted this thread in the first place was to let people know that there may be a relatively low cost and easy to diagnose reason for the power loss symptoms that many Passats seem to suffer from on occasion.

Unfortunately, the thread seems to have degenerated into a pointless debate......

Therefore, I'd just like to apologise for accusing dealerships of not being reasonably priced and just hope that my delusions have not caused distress to any poor dealership owners..... and I hope for their sake that their shiny Bentleys, Beamers and Mercs never develop any of the faults my Passat is plagued with..........

BTW Crasher, could you tell me where I can find this dealership that will honour a two year warranty on an AVM? Cos I'll certainly be buying from them in the future

Ohh you bitch, scratch my eyes out

Any VAG dealer (VW, AUDI, SEAT, SKODA, not sure about shiny Bentley) will honour the two year warranty no matter which dealer it was bought from (same brand though) as long as you produce the paperwork. For example, I fitted a new clutch (Sachs) and cable (genuine from my local VAG TPS) into my father in-laws Seat Cordoba. Six months later the clutch cable failed and he lives hundreds of miles away. The local Seat dealer took the car in and fitted a new cable, all I had to do was fax the dealer the invoice for the cable and that was it.

Guys could I ask you for some help please.
I have an Audi A4 1.9TDI 2002 model. If i drive in the heavy rain or drive through a puddle on the road my car starts running really bad. I disconnected the AMF thingy and the car runs, but lacks power. So i imagine its the AMF thats gone. I was also told tha there was an issue with the 2002 models where they had sucked in water through the air intake and caused these problems. If i drive the car in the dry weather for a 20 mile or so trip, it seems to clear the problem (however it still lacks power at times). Can anyone tell me the possible solution. I have heard of people continually changing their flow meters. And is there an air intake that can be fitted that will stop the water from getting in.
    AMEN

As far as I can remember there was a recall for the intake to solve water getting into the AMM and I would suggest you had a fault code read.

I have only had the car 7 months and dont know if the car was ever recalled. I left the car with a mechanic and he says there where two faul codes, one was the AMM and the other was a throttle thingy code.
Do you think it is the AMM. The first time it done it was when the roads where flooded and my car went through a flooded road. Then i disconnected the air intake section from the front grill and it seemed a little better, but its doin the same again.
I dont want to leave it into an Audi dealer and pay a load of money for stuff thats not required.

Why do you think that taking it to the dealer would mean that parts not required are more likely to be fitted than at a non franchised non VAG experienced mechanic? It is LESS likely that non necessary parts will be fitted but you WILL pay more per hour.

Have you ever been to an Audi dealer for work?

What I mean is they cost a bloomin fortune. I have done mechanics in the past, so if someone points me in the right direction, ill do it myself to save on the pennies.
