Hi , Can anybody help me with an engine error: 17058 (P0674)-shift solenoid E intermittent. This is a reoccuring error. Engine sometimes will not rev out when first started. Also error message "workshop emissions" is displayed on the dash display whilst error is present in ecu on first start. From past experience that message can mean anything.

I am a bit confused by this one, which is why I altered my post last night as I wanted to check some info at work. I looked on VAG’s own Guided Fault Finding (GFF) system and in a hard copy of the VAG Erwin manual I printed out a few years ago (Elsa contains no code info on the ARL) and according to both, the ARL 150PD engine cannot generate this code, the list jumping from 16989 to 17553, that is why I asked you which code reader you are using.

I looked up the code on GFF and the explanation I gave is correct

    P0684 17058 Cylinder 4 Glow Plug Circuit-Q13 Electrical Fault

    And from VAG-COM's own site

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/17058/P0674/001652

So I think your code reader is giving the wrong code.

    Hi Crasher,
The diagnostic tool which I have read this code with is a snap-on ETHOS . I can check the resistance of number 4 cylinder glow plug. But I am very concerned after reading your previous post.I have previously had to change the glowplug in number 1 cylinder , but the glow plug had a high resistance. Thankyou for your help, and any other info would be much appreciated.

Sussed that one out, VW’s own Guided Fault Finding is wrong. From July 2003 the ARL had a glow plug control unit with individual glow plug feeds and diagnostics

    Crasher,
I have replaced the set of glowplugs today, and removed the error and all now seems well I just hope that the fault does not reoccur!

    Med Roberts.
