I remember that! Last year I lived in Windsor and my local was Shell..and one day they pulled all their card machines...was a bit of a drama!

Didn't know why at the time tho..

Yes, I use Tesco 99 RON, made by Greenergy, and is the official fuel of the British Rally Championship: http://www.greenergy.co.uk/products/99_octane.html. Here's why I use it: http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/g...%3D0%26toc%3D1.

Greenergys "normal" 95 RON unleaded is used by Tesco, and also other independent petrol retailers, so why arn't they having probs too!

Not necessarily. Firstly, modern VAG motors need 98 RON unleaded, and the ONLY filling stations who stock at least 98 RON are Tesco 99 and Shell V-Power (also 99 RON). All the "other" super unleaded sold by the other oil co's is only 97 RON. In mainland Europe, super unleaded must be a minimum of 98 RON, but here in the UK, we get shafted with lesser quality products, and they never put the price of SU on the boards either! .

Secondly, even the "big" oil companies get it very wrong. Remember the "Formula Shell" debacle from the 1980s, which was a new additives pack in unleaded, but caused very agressive valve seat recession. Shell tried to worm their way out of it, but were eventually proven to be liable, and had to withdraw Formula Shell from the market!

Oh, I think it will. Even if you half fill with Tesco or Morrison, then top up with someone elses, 20p a litre soon adds up, especially when you struggle to get 200miles from a 66litre tank.

And that reason is they take less profit margin, compared to the branded fuel stations. The loss in profit is probably subsidised from the high prices charged say on the Tesco Finest ranges!

I'm with you all the way on that. If the O2 sensor had failed, a surface deposit should be visible, and could quite easily be tested in a lab.

Decided to try another tank of Tesco's 99 RON but exactly the same happened.
Your opinion of Tesco 99 seems to be at odds with published independent research. Don't forget, not all Tesco sites have the 99 RON stuff, many still have 97 RON as their super unleaded.

Log onto some of the Scooby or Evo boards, and they all swear by either V-Power and/or Tesco 99.

At the end of the day, all fuels sold in the UK must comply with certain standards (the old British Standards, now superceeded by EN standards).

That is true for the majority of "branded" stations, but Tesco and Morrisions use Greenergy as their supplier. When Morrisons first started their petrol stations, they initially used Texaco as their supplier, but since jumping on the "Eco" bandwagon, with Bioethanol, Greenergy is the one for them now!
