Before the recent cold spell, the outside temperature was being correctly reported.

Whilst driving during one very cold night, the display went first to dashes (--.-) and since then has recorded temperatures in the -30 region (it does change by 1 or 2 degrees during driving, but not to the correct temperature).

Does anyone know whether this is something that can be reset by the dealer, or is it something more serious, like a faulty sensor.

    Any help appreciated!

Hi I would say it was a faulty sensor or a faulty contact

Surely, if it was cold outside you would know even before turning on the car to read the temperature .

Could be that the settings have changed from Celsius to Fahrenheit? However, - 30 F = - 34 C.

    Are you sure it reads " - 30 " and not just " 30 ".

    30 F is about -1 C. I'd say it's more likely to be that.

Should be easy to change from F to C.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm sure it is reading Celsius. This morning when I started ther car it was reading -24, but by the time I had reached the office it was 'only' reading -7! Perhaps some ice had got into the sensor which with the temperatures at last abover freezing, is thawing and drying out.

The car is laft all day in an underground car park, so hopefully during the day it will sort itself out.

I'm pretty sure it's a faulty sensor. I had exactly the same problem on my previous car, a Peugeot 306. See here fore more details: http://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/peugeot...php#tempsensor

    Stuart.

    Thanks for your response.

The temperature sensor and read-out all appear to be working properly again.

My suspiction is that, during the really cold weather last week (I live in Germany where one night it went down to -15!) ice formed in either the sensor or connector, which caused it to mis-read.

It's only been the last day or so where temperatures have gone above freezing and hence the ice melted.

Obviously as it's now working again I won't need to do anything more, but will keep an eye on it to see how it perfoms.
