I've had my company 55 plate Sport 2.0TDI 140 from new, now covered 118k miles and it's been a great car. I like it so much my boss has just asked me to choose a new car, but I've asked if I can keep this one as I like it so much. The only problem I've had was the fuel pump, and saw tooth rear tyre wear, both fixed for free.

Remember that for every complaint/niggle you read here there may be 10 or 20 owners plus whose cars have been fantastic, you rarely get reports on here saying how good they are and how much people like them, but you'll always read the negatives, which, I believe, are a small amount overall.

I would, however, reccomend the chrome grill option
Wow. 5k in 12 months !!!. You can now get a high miler B6 at auction for that money. I do like the chrome grill though, seems to lift the whole look of the car to a new level, something mine doesn't have unfortunately.

I really can't fault mine at all, all recall and service work has been performed well by the dealer. Just watch out for the Dual Mass Flywheel, I blew my clutch and destroyed the flywheel less than a month after getting the car, but VW replaced it under warranty, even though it was my fault!

That's the kind of answers I hoped I might see, as always for every unhappy owner there must be dozens of happy ones!
Oh well, a week today hopefully, and I should get the keys....

Like others, I love mine. Only 10000km old (08/08 125kW diesel model) but no issues. No niggles like parking sensors etc. Only a rattle in the LHS of the dash.

Not had a service yet, but so far LOVE IT. In Australiam you tyr and get another quality European car for the same $$ - forget it...

And my mate loves his 08/09 125kW diuesel wagon too...

Like most of the responses, I really love my 170dsg. Almost 1yr old and nearly 10k miles, no issues, only fun. It drives well, is comfortable, intuitive and intelligently designed. What else compares? An A6 or E-class has more soft touch plastics, but for £10k more, forget it. Looking around, the only cars I would trade it for are twice the price, and cost twice as much to run. And that I won't be able to afford for a very long time.

I do moan about mine from time (though noted mine is a B5.5) when I look at problems other people get with other marques, it really is not bad at all. The only real bad problem with the B5+ which does not affect the B6 is the pesky plenum leak.

    It's a Mercedes Benzzzz though
