    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and about to take delivery of my second Passat, ran the first for 18 months/36000 miles with no problems at all.
After reading a few posts in here, it seems that a lot of people are having problems with their cars! Surely the Passat isn't that bad! I was at one point having second thoughts and wondering if I had done the right thing afterall by buying another B6.

So, in short, would you reccommend your passat to anyone else who was thinking of buying one?

I would, and can't wait for mine to arrive!

I've had a few niggly problems with mine but these have been resolved fairly simply and fairly quickly. It has, however, cost me a fair bit in 12 months (over £5k - apart from depreciation of course) but it's been great ownership.

I would, however, reccomend the chrome grill option

I'm "satisfied" in that it does what I want and you get a lot of car for the money. I've done 70k miles and it's been as good as my Mark 4 Golf was. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. There have been a lot of reported problems on the car, and I've had some of those issues, but the car's never been out of action for more than a couple of hours at the most (apart from when it's in for servicing or warranty work).

Put it this way, I'd love a big Audi A6, but is it worth an extra £10k? What are the alternatives to the Passat? I'm sure the Mondeo is a great car, but then all new Fords are, but I wouldn't want to own one because they never seem to stand the test of time. New Insignia or whatever it's called from Vauxhall, no thanks! Renault, Peugeot, don't think so.

Yes I'm happy with mine, only got it 2 weeks ago (57 plate Jan 08 140tdi SE DSG) but it is my 3rd Passat. Having previously owned a B5 1998 1.8T sport and then an 03 130TDi Sport 4Motion after 21 months of idiocy with a Honda Civic I'm back it a Passat and it feels like coming home.

It's a proper car, I wouldn't worry too much about the negatives on here as it's human nature to winge when there are issues (even smal ones) but to say **** all when all is well.

I'm loving the DSG box BTW it's ace

While the Passat has had it's problems, so have many other cars, alot of the time if you scan forums, people tend to air their frustrations more enthusiastically than singing their cars praises, which is understandable but can paint a blacker picture than reality.

I can say that the drive & overall feeling of ownership is superb, I'd definitely recommend the car to anyone.

It doesn't do any one thing that stands out, but somehow everything comes together to make a very pleasant driving experience.

I drove loads of models before deciding on the Passat for that reason, it felt great to drive it.

I've driven a multitude of cars from our office as well & it always feels great to get back in the Passat.

    I agree, a great car.

I've had my 56 plate 170 TDI since August and only been in once for parking brake failure, which was sorted promptly along with other recall work (fuel pump), as well as another look at the Parking sensors

You will see a lot of problems on the forum, but that's the very nature of the thing and should not give you a negative impression of the car.

I've had other "reliable" cars, like BMW 3 series which went in for cracked brake pipe, failed thermostat, parking sensors fault, and a couple of recalls, so it's not just VWs that have this sort of problem.

A lot of it also comes down to the service you get from dealers. So far i've had an average response from the dealer I bought the car from, and fantastic service from my local dealer.

Also, my wife has just got her company car, an A4, which has a similiar spec to mine but cost just under £30k!

I've only had mine 9 months and it's not been in for a service yet so it's recorded 100% availability with no faults found. Well, except the stone chips and scratches that inevitably but depressingly accrue anyway ...

I can therefore only rate the car, not what most people find the negatives - the dealer. But I find it excellent so far in every way, as others have pointed out it's a lot of car for a reasonable price.

I think I'm in the "happy with mine" camp. Only had it a couple of months so far but it's been everything I could hope for and for what I paid for it it's a lot of car.
