My car pumps out warm air within about 1 min of starting! 2.0tdi.
Not sure about special heaters though, must be something there as it takes about 5 mins in the wifes yaris.

All the newer A4 TDIs with automatic aircon have the heater matrxi heating plugs installed from the factory. They're only good for heating the heater matrix and thus the interiour though and not powerful enough to heat the entire engine the 90 degrees when it's really cold out.

The Eberspacher pre-heater I have I can turn on, say, 30mins before I'm going somewhere with the car. The windows will then be nice and clear and the interior and engine warm when I go off 30mins later.

Here are a few pics of my install:

A picture showing the actual heater. It's located below the coolant tank in the engine bay between the engine block and the car frame. You can faintly see the coolant lines connected to the heater. The exhaust pipe runs through the cardan tunnel to the bottom of the car and the intake pipe under the left headlight. Also visible are the fuses for the heater that I attached to the plastic piece by the steering servo fluid tank.

Another picture of the heater showing the coolant lines and some of the electric wires going to the car's interior and the battery.

And a pic of the Eber's fuel line that's installed on the fuel pump lid. For my A4 FWD Avant the fuel pump is located in the boot under the floor. For Quattro's the pump is located under the rear seat. The blue fuel line is run to the heater under the plastic that cover's the car's bottom.

This picture shows the interior temperature sensor that only comes with the EasyStart R+ remote control. This measures the interior temp so you can check it on the R+ remote! I still need to fix this to the dash with tape or a screw. This and a small red button are all that "give away" the heater's presence to the interior of the car. I have the red button hidden away in the dash for now as I want to replace it with a FUNK switch for the center console as I hate all extra looking switches and knobs in my cars!

I just noticed, you live in Finland! Probably a good idea to have this over there, couldn't justify the xtra expense here though, after all i only ever see snow on ski Sunday.

    Cool, they're working now.

Did you take your fuel sender cover off just to take the photos for us?

It's all very interesting, thanks for sharing.

How much does the unit weigh please, a couple of KGs? Does it drink much diesel in the 30 mins you run it?

Luckily I took the pic when I was installing the fuel line

The unit itself weighs around 2-3kg. As I recall it uses around 0.3 - 0.4 litres of fuel per hour so it's not significant. I usually run it for 20mins when it's around -5'c outside.
