I can only speculate that.. NO it dosen't

The AC control just reduces the airflow until the engine coolant is up to temperature. Mine usually takes a good 5 mins of driving before any decent warm air starts to come through!

I know it *can* have one as I read it with interest in the manual a few weeks ago. Was interesting that it can be remotely turned on... very handy in the current freeze!

Pretty sure it's an optional thing though.

Correct, It's an option for cold weather climate countries for both diesel and petrol models.

Eberspacher and Webasto make aux heaters that run off the car's fuel. I have one with remote control in my TDi and wouldn't trade it for anything in the winter! I have the Eberspacher D4WSC EasyStart R+

They can be found on Ebay.de for around 500 - 1200EUR

Are we talking here about an engine pre-heater or an auxillary heater for the climate control?

I was under the impression that all of the 2.0 TDI and larger Audi's (and VW, but not Seat or Skoda) had an auxillary ceramic electric heater as modern diesel engines are so econimcal they don't get warm if sat at idle...

On my B7, I'm sure that when I turn the heating controls up to HI I start getting warm air after a few minutes sat on my drive... It isn't as warm as when the engine is up to temp but it is enough to defrost your windscreen more quickly than just cold air.

I don't think I am imagining this! I first found out about it on a MK5 Golf forum when I had a GTTDI.

Ceramic electrical heater? I'm not convinced Flakmunkey. My 2.0 TDI takes ages to get up to temp and I'm sure it's just normal engine heat that comes through the heater.

I'd be interested if anyone knows otherwise...?

I second that mine does the same, warm air starts flowing after a couple of mins from cold sitting on the drive!!! Again enough to defrost quickly!!!

    Taken from uk-mkvs.net

Its an ancillary heater electric fitted to all 2.0 TDI (not sure about other diesels) cars that heats the water circulating in the heater matrix to quicken up its response. The probelm was you should have assisted it by driving the car instead of sitting at idle
    And

Just a point of clarification though. The TDI's have an electric PET heater in the dash unit with a 1kw output. If you have Climatic air con it becomes operational if the temperatuer dial is turned up to 90% of maxiumum - and if the ECON button is not selected.

On the Climatronic unit the PEt heater is automatically operated.
The posts indicate it is only fitted to 2.0TDI engines... I would have thought Audi, being the premium brand would have pinched this heater for their cars!

My car blows warm air (not as hot as when up to temperature) long before the water temp gauge has moved...
