Slight knocking noise in reverse?

Hi guys i have a A3 2.0T. When i put it in reverse and turn to park it seems to knock at the front... I took it too audi where the man took it out for a test drive and agreed he could hear some thing, so i left it with them at 730am on thursday morning! Any way heard nothing from audi called them today and they said they couldnt find a problem... but will keep it over the weekend to have another look... Really annoying as i now dont have a car and i know there is a problem.. Shall i insist they look harder..? Any one know what the knock could be? When its parked and i move the steering side to side just slighty i can some times hear it... Any help would be great! cheers in advance!

How old is your car?

It could be the steering rack if it's an older car, or covered a lot of mileage, or it could be suspension bushes. The bushes on my S3 have started making knocking noises, most noticable in reverse whilst going over raised driveways or similar.

Two ideas anyway! Depending on exactly what the noise sounds like it might be brakes sticking on and crunching slightly, or it maybe possibly be something to do with gears? The latter two would be unlikely I think.

Someone else may be able to advise better. Hope this helps!

I'm No great expert , but my first thought would be CV joint. I'm sure a quality Audi garage wouldve considered this though .?.?.

Hi my car is a 2006 with 25,000 on it so not alot! I have to get the car tomorrow but they could not find a problem

! They have had my car for 5 days and didnt find any thing... They said they would come out with me again tomorrow morning to see if they can hear any thing.. But im going to wait till they have a courtesy car to take it back in as walking around in the cold is not fun. It's at bristol audi so im quite shocked they couldnt find any thing as the guy that came out with me heard it!

They probably haven't driven it much. Failing that they've abused your car and used it as their run-around.

hi went this morning to get the car... went out again and yeah wouldnt make the noise very annoying... But yeah they got through half a tank of fuel which takes the ****! They must have just been out running around in it!Im really Annoyed with audi.

You shouldve taken the mileage and exact fuel reading mate. cheeky __ckers garages really take the mick!!! I'd have a serious kick off about a garage using my £500 VW, let alone an Audi!!!

My A3 is a '99 so considerably older, but I had a knocking noise coming from the front of the car too. For me it was the suspension bushes were worn so there was play in the suspension - causing the knocking noise.

I would certainly have issue with the petrol use! On the older A3 (8L) the droplinks/anti rollbar bushes were prone to creaking even at low mileage, maybe its the same on the newer ones. You could try spraying WD40 onto the bushes and see if it goes away.

Sometimes it is hard to work out what is causing a noise, you can hear it when driving but its impossible to recreate on the ramp

Hi - Just wondered if you got to the bottom of this problem?

I have a 53 2.0fsi that's had knocking noises from both the front offside and rear both sides!
The rear knocking was the shock absorbers which were changed under warranty.
The front offside knocking is soft but audible when turning left on 3/4 lock or more.
Grimsby Audi have heared it and looked into it at least five times whilst the car was under warranty. They checked everything and couldn't find anythink wrong.
It's still doing it to this day!

It's possible it could be the same problem you've described.
