    Hi All,

I joined yesterday as I have the pleasure of having to repair a relatives T5 Crewcab 2003 88kw. whilst he is away on holiday
Both the cam and pump belts have failed presumably at the same time?
So I guess that means damaged valves in the head.
Is this type of failure common?
I have all the info from the forum to repair, brilliant, many thanks to all contributers, Happy New Year.

Its a common failiure if the timing belt change and relevant tensioners haven't been done on time. Has your friend kept to the 60k or 4 year schedule? If this is the original belt then it was overdue!

Best of luck... an engine re-furb on any engine after a timing belt failiure is hard work.

    Hi Paul,
Yes, belt change way overdue 73K!
Very awkward to get at all the parts to get the head off, interestingly? I took off the thottle valve housing and it was almost 75% choked with oil and soot so performace must have been greatly affected.
I had to buy a very long extension to reach the turbo oil drain flange from underneath, once that's off should be able to remove the head and access the damage.
    Regards

    Ian

I know its a long time since this thread was on the go, But thought i would put my thought forward. Ive just bought a T5 and it has 90k on the clock and owned by 1 company it got the first 2 services and not had anymore. All it got was a top up of oil. I changed the cam belt etc and they seemed in good condition and looked like they would do another 50k . I know they all seem to look ok till they snap. Im not sure weather i was it was look on my side or bad luck on your side but it just goes to show the difference between 2 vehicles. Mine had been driven hard and not looked after and all its life to now has done short journeys.
