On every other car I have owned the glove box lid either opens with a bang or my old Audis open with a nice damped motion, how come on my B7 (and others that I took for a test drive) it will only open as far as you pull it down, is this right? Pete.

My 2007 B7 2.0 TDI S line went for a service recently and the dealer advised me that the damper on my glove compartment lid had been replaced as part of a factory recall - I didn't even know it needed it, so you might be as well checking whether Audi will fix it for you.

Actually tested my glovebox again today... I pull the handle and the box drops slightly open and stays there for a couple of seconds and then opens slowly, so try waiting a little!

Mine had the same problem, I've had the damper replaced by Audi under warranty.

I had a feeling that may be the case, trouble is the car is now over 3 years old so I will have to foot the bill, does any body know how to remove the glove box lid, I had a look at the hinges and could see what looked like a hinge pin, do I have to pull this out? Thanks to everybody for your input as normal a great help. Pete.

You can take the glove box out really easily, giving access to the hinge/pin I think - about 4 or 5 bolts. I have a diagram showing you what to do - PM me your email addess and I'll send it over to you.

A new hinge from Audi shouldn't cost much.
