    Hi all,

I am new to this forum. The reason for posting is, that I have been offered to buy a new Golf TDI Bluemotion at a good price.

After doing a bit of research I have found out, that this BlueMotion model is quite new on the market (maybe from 2008 ?) but since VW now have launched the MK.6 Golf, it is already out of the market again apart from a few unsold cars.

I have read a lot of tests of the BlueMotion, and only one thing worries me a bit, and that is the engine.
I thought VW were using commonrail diesels for years, but it seems this engine is a " pumpe düse " diesel, and it seems to be a bit noisy.

What is your opinion on this engine, - good, bad. reliable, noisy ?

Please share your knowledge with me, since I only have a short time to say yes or no to the deal, and unfortunately I am far away from the car in this moment, so I will not be able to have a test ride before buying.

Some comments I have read describes the engine as a " tractor" engine, that should have been replaced a long time ago, some write, that you must be sure to use the right type of engine oil, in order to not have excessive wear on the camshaft ( I think)

But then I think, hey, it´s a GOLF, VW must have sold many of this type of engine, it cannot be that bad !

Of course I could just buy a new MK.6 Golf instead, but the price tag would be a lot higher.

Your opinion will be appreciated, thank you.

We've owned/currently own a number of 1.4 and 1.9 " pumpe düse " diesels ranging from Polos to Golfs to Beetles. No problems with the engines at all, in fact, they have been the best cars we have ever owned in terms of reliability and economy. If you opt for the Mk 5 Golf Bluemotion it residual values will be very strong and costs associated with fuel consumption, road tax and insurance will very low.

If you want to save some £££, I would say go and check out the price difference of Golf MK5 and MK6 and see how much you can save (dealers might be willing to give higher discounts on MK5 than MK6 models). Golf MK6 aren't any better than MK5, but if you want the newest then MK6 is your pick.

The best deals are on the 1.9tdi match models if you can find a dealer with stock. Vw are offering additional discounts on this model so if your flexible you will be able to get a better deal. The main thing to be aware of with VAG diesels is to avoid ones with DPF filters if you only drive low mileage or city driving (stop/start). They are not designed for this and clog up resulting in engines cutting out badly. The DPF needs blasting on the motorway to stop this but dealers wont advise you about the fault!!!!!!

Used 2008/08 Golf 1.9TDi Match (NOT Bluemotion and without DPF) are available for £9,995 from some dealers which is a huge saving against new. All Bluemotions models in the VW range have the DPF and according to the local VW dealer all diesels engine from 2010 will have DPF as standard.
