Filling with Petrol

Does anyone have any problems filling with petrol? It's like the flow of fuel is too fast all the time and the pump is always clicking off as if the tank is full. Somethimes it takes over 5 minutes to fill because i can only depress the handle slightly.

I have tried holding the nozzle on different angles and upside down but it is still really reluctant! My old 2001 A3 was also pretty bad for this so maybe it's just me???

It is a lot worse when i have to stretch the pipe over the car when parked at wrong side of pump, can this really make a massive difference?

I have found with certain cars this is a problem. Do you always fill up at the same pump/station? If so just try a different one.

My 2 local ones are shell and Sainsbury's, both are equally as bad. I may save up for a few weeks and try the Texico. (currently 7p dearer)

What 7p a litre dearer!? I would put up with the slow filling to save that lol or am I just tight

At least yours clicks off- second time I filled my old diesel B7 it kept on going and went all over my trainers and jeans

Must have been that pump though cos it never did it again

To achieve maximum satisfaction, withdraw the nozzle about half an inch, then angle it down into the hole, until the shaft is resting on both sides if the opening. Try not to wiggle around, holding it there for as long as you can. This can some times causes a bit of a cramp in my right hand.

This is due to the nozzle on the pipe. It is possible on this model to insert the nozzle too far and for reasons I don't know this activates the premature clicking. On the nozzle there are notches/raised areas that you can rest on the edge of the metal filler on your car. This sorts the problem.

I know this because I very embarassingly had a full demo from a very nice Shell employee!!
