    Hi
Recently got an audi 80 1.9tdi avant and am very pleased with it, but!
On pulling away in first or reversing the engine seems to judder fairly violently! Causing the whole car to shake!
I am assuming engine mount or gearbox mount?
Or would there be another cause?
It doesn't do it if your at say walking pace in second and pull away, only first.
How do i actually check the mounts as they are £40 ea so want to do the right one?
Thanks in advance, need to sort this as it spoils what is a very smooth car.

apply handbrake with car on firm level ground. lift bonnet. get an able assistant to sit in the car, engine running. put into first gear and gently lift clutch, while you stand at the SIDE of the engine bay and watch the engine. repeat in reverse gear, looking for any lifting of the engine. be careful to have nothing in front or behind car, as if the car does move it can get awfully complicated, hence standing at the side. also jack car up and check wishbone bushes for movement. get a lever in behind the bushes where they join the subframe to check for movement. also check the 4 subframe mounts.

If when you check all engine/gearbox mountings and if you find
them ok here is a tip to try (not a joke) spray a few shots of wd 40 in to inspection hole on top of gearbox towards centre of clutch
I have tried this in the past and found improvement in judder
problem. It does return after a while. Only theory here is clutch
disc sticking on splines and helped by lubrication
Another problem may be oil from turbo oozing on to drivers side engine mount making rubber soft
