Can anyone help i have changed the air mass meter, serviced it and had it on a few computers and they all say fine is it possible it could be a faulty lamba sensor or the cat converter? Please help its costing me loads to run .

    Thanks,

    Mcnemo

Fuel economy can have everything to do with the driver. My Bora 1.6 16v SE gets between 35-40 MPG when I'm driving, as soon as the missus turns the key its doing about 24MPG, how low are we talking here?

Also a common problem is with the throttle body becoming caked in crap, it's easy enough to clean and a good garage would have checked this. have a look and let me know.

So an AKL or AEH engine and around a 2000 model? No codes are stored on the ECU?

If there are no codes stored then the lambda sensor will not be faulty. If there are no codes whatsoever and it is running OK, that is the consumption you are going to get.

missus has a heavy right foot, drives quite hard bt I'm more for the smooth ride. Do you drive fast when you have no customer, that could be it, can't see how the accessories will make that much difference. Test with them plugged in and then without.
Other than that, crasher is right thats the mpg you're going to get... sorry

You wont get much more than that mate ! Missus had a 1.6 petrol in a passat basic, it would burn 11-13L of fuel per 100Km... that will roughly equate to 25-28Mpg ! However i drove-it, it could not better 30Mpg and had absolutely no toys on board, just front leccy windows ! I would get a diesel if i was using the car as a taxi ! Small engines are working harder to haul a heavy car around but they good on insurance though. Needless to say, the missus new passat does close to 700miles on a tank wich is mixed town and motorway round London, wich works as 45Mpg+ average and is a sport estate !

You just need to ease off the right foot. I can get 40mpg just after a service.
