Has anyone heard anything about this security alert with Internet Explorer?
If not, ask around or check the news - if you have, what's the latest on this?

Briefly, for those not in the know, people are advised to use a different browser until problems with IE have been resolved; the most vulnerable system is IE7 as it's obviously the most widely used, and it is open to hackers and the like.

    Hi,

    Sorry about that.

With the benefit of hindsight I should probably have fork() ed a new IE (Intermittent Exploder ) thread, rather than recycle the Firefox one (from the thread pool). Would probably have been less confusing that way.

Original post: Serious security flaw found in IE

BTW K9Max, I am curious about the name/handle.

    Regards,
    TR7

Looks like Microsoft has a quick temp fix according to the news tonight from 6PM.

Got to give it to them they are pretty dam good. And before everyone jumps on me from a great height, I feel sorry for Microsoft all the idiots in the world that write virus's and crap like that are the baddies Microsoft do try to make decent products and the alternatives just don't suit everyone.

Just had an update from m/soft to IE7 a security fix, dont know if it is the quick fix that was announced on the BBC website yesterday but it did require a restart. best advice i can think of is use a router with a Firewall built in. i have run one of these on my network for six years now and not had any problems with hackers. i may have just been lucky i dont know??

i have an update ready when i shut down to install, at least they are on top of whatever went wrong, cant say ive noticed?

in my experience, people write firefox/safari etc to get away from ie, those groups of people are the people that write the virus's to muck up microsoft, they dont get virus's on firefox/safari etc because they are all a bunch of geeks together with something they dont want to destroy, i'll stick with ie and be a normal person thanks

At least things are clearer now - it's like with any breaking news, people tend to panic until they know more about it. I'm sticking with ie too.

I would love to have that as a number plate, but it's not available and it would cost a fortune anyway! It's just a reference to "that bloke with the dog"(in this case, the 4-legged type )

Your right although what's the point in writing a virus for Firefox or Safari so few million use them compared to ie I dont even think it would make the newspaper's.
