I bought a Passat TDI 130BHP PD Y-Reg(2001) 10 months ago. It had 120,000miles on it then. It started to lose power after a few months so I changed the Air mass meter(I bought a reconditioned one with 3 months warranty). It drove like new for about 3-4 months then started to lose power again.

I have now bought a Bosch MAF sensor from Eurocarparts with a 1 year warranty but it hasn't made a difference. It has nearly full power when started in the mornings but when it gets to about 2300-3000revs or at speeds of about 70mph the power suddenly drops off and I find it difficult to hit speeds of 75mph. Accelerating becomes V-E-R-Y S-L-O-W at this point and I find it difficult going up hills. The power seems to come back temporarily if the engine is turned off again for a few minutes.

I have also noticed that the temperature gauge refuses to work intermittently.

I took it to a garage and after doing diagnostics for £52 they said it was the turbo wastegate. They have said they can recitfy the problem for £250 without me having to buy a new turbo.

I got some advice from a different forum and I am now waiting to have further diagnostics done on monday with Vag-com reader.

My suspicions are it might be the Pressure boost Valve /solenoid. Some other guy had similar problem and sorted it out by changing this. I think its also called the charge pressure control valve

Keep me posted please.

i highly doubt its the wastegate, as is what the other forum has advised by the sounds of it. likelyhood being its something to do with the sticky vines on turbo, VNT mechanism or EGR valve. if either one of these begins to function improperly, you will experience turbo problems. a session on the vagcom should help point in the right direction
