My water pump failed under the warranty, the dealer replaced it and I had the Cambelt changed too as the car has done 50k/4yrs. I was told the two are normally done together.

Last month I paid about £600k for cambelt and water pump on my 1999 1.8T. Parts for cambelt included belt, tensioner and damper (looks like a piston). Water pump was only £24 with no labour specifically identified.

However, my dealer is in Surrey where labour charges are approx £100 per hour (including VAT).

Only upside to this. I needed the undertray replaced. (Some builder kindly left a load of plasterboard on the M3 sliproad) I got it done at the same time as the cambelt and only ended up paying for parts, about £30.

If I had done it separately, VW Heathrow wanted £300, parts and labour!!
