    Hi

My 54 plate audi a4 avant now has a problem with the rear screen washer, ie it doesn't work! I pump is fine I can hear this however I have noticed the last few days the washer tank emptying quickly. So I had a look today and when I press the lever for the rear wash water pumps out from above my front passenger side wheel.

So I think something has come loose, but been a woman don't know where to look for this pipe as my friend said find the start and trace it back, but it starts at the tank and then disapears somewhere towards the passener side window.

Any tips please, I would like to fix this myself, since my audi cover ran out I have been starting to learn a bit and worked out my overboost problem with the help of you nice people on this site. Basically I lent it to a friend (mechanic) for a week whilst I was away. He had been scanning it for me for free and it only gave a over boost fault everytime and as it had nothing else such as a MAF fault I asked him to thrash it for me and it happened once on him at about 110mph and touch wood had two weeks of normal power since. He did say the turbo was fine as my car goes like stink, obviously I don't drive fast enough!

    Thanks in advance

    Hi.
Did you manage to fix the water problem?
Just noticed same on my A4 Avant. Water pump working when pressing rear wash but water coming out from front nearside wing underneath.
How did you get to the pipe and was it a split or had it come off at a joint.
    Many Thanks.

Sounds like the pipe has disconnected. I'd have a look at the rear tailgate first. Strip out interior trim. Normally trim is held in place with plastic push-clips, however there may be a couple of self-tappers to remove. The clips may break on removal, but they're relatively cheap from Audi (about the only thing that is!)

Once trim is removed - trace plastic water pipe (will be fairly obvious). If connected - then disconnect and get someone to press wiper stalk for rear washer. If water comes out, then the problem lies with the spray nozzle. I've seen these block before. Try a needle (use pliers) to help.

If on the other hand it feels wet anywhere in boot area - then the pipe may have diconnected somewhere along its length. Most likely at tailgate hinge. It will be within the rubber shroud. If it has - then use a small jubilee clip. You don't want to be doing this job twice.

Definately a job in a warm garage. Bit fiddley - but straight-forward.

Apologies - just re-read your post. This will have disconnected at the water reservoir. I haven't worked on B6 model before, but one of the pipes will have come off. You'll need jubilee clip to sort. Probably the result of freezing, vibration, etc.
