    Hello.

2000 Passat 1.8T Sport with winter pack.

The headlight washers haven't worked for a few years so whilst I was having the cam belt replaced I asked for the garage to get them working again.
They fitted a new pump and hey presto I had headlight washers again.
Trouble is now once they have been activated the drivers side jet continues to dribble until the reservoir has run dry. This will happen even with the electrics off.
I'm guessing there might be a non-return valve that has failed or an the jet itself might be at fault.

Anyone got any ideas, tips on getting the front bumper off or diagrams of what is behind the bumper?

    Many thanks

    Andy

I had a quick look at the diagrams for the headlight jets and do not see any non return valves, so I would assume that it is incorporated in the pump.
Send me an email adress and i will send you pdf files of the diags. Regards Richard

Just out of interest, how much did you pay for your new headlamp washer pump?? I asked the dealer and they quoted £50 or so just for the part!! I thought for that I'll clean the head lamps with a cloth every so often.

    Cheers,

    Tom.
    See you in my smoke...

I replaced my pump a few years back and think it cost me about £20 from the ******** - Maybe GSF will be cheaper but they did not stock at the time. I could not explain why the pumpo had simply blown itself apart around the motor rather than the pump.

I managed to replace it by loosening the cover and mount for the power steering reservoir. I think, and squeezing my hand in. _ The ******** said that they would have to take the bumper cover off and would want two hours plus labour !

My headlamp waskers leak too on occasions - When they do I cleana round teh jets - puilling them out by hand and ensuring that the mechanism moves smoothly. I am not sure but I think that the jets seal themselves off when the retract - fully - and so cleaning is needed to make sure that this happens.

£60- I must have had a screw loose at the time- labour was nothing as the bumper was off.
